Monza has one luxury hotel. Hotel de la Ville sits on Viale Regina Margherita di Savoia, directly opposite the Villa Reale palace, 2 kilometres from the Autodromo gates. During Italian GP weekend, the paddock comes here. Michael Schumacher, Kimi Räikkönen, Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc — the hotel earned the name "pilots' hotel" over decades of Grand Prix weekends, and the reputation has stuck.
The hotel has 62 rooms across three floors, individually furnished, a number of them overlooking the royal palace gardens. The Derby Grill restaurant — led by chef Fabio Silva — is the serious dining option in Monza: Brianza-inspired, locally sourced, three Michelin forks. The breakfast buffet gets consistently singled out in reviews. There's also a bar, a gym, a sauna in the La Villa annex, and free parking in a closed courtyard.
What you're paying for is location. Walk through Parco di Monza to the circuit gates in under 20 minutes — the same park walk that train arrivals take from Biassono-Lesmo, but from your hotel room instead of the station. On race weekend, that's not a small thing. The alternative is a hotel in Milan with a 25-minute train journey each way, three times a day. Here you walk.
The hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Standard rates run from around €300/night. Race weekend pricing is considerably higher, and availability goes months before September — this is the only property of its kind in Monza, and the circuit crowd knows it.
Why it's special
Most Italian GP visitors stay in Milan. It makes sense logistically — good train links, more hotel options, the city itself. But Hotel de la Ville offers something no Milan hotel can: you're already at Monza. Walk to the circuit. Walk back after the race without waiting for a train. Eat at Derby Grill, sleep opposite the Villa Reale, and spend the weekend inside the event rather than commuting to it.
The F1 teams have been staying here for decades, which tells you something about the standard of the place. But what's more interesting is the location itself — directly opposite one of Italy's finest neoclassical palaces, inside a park that contains a world championship motor racing circuit. That combination exists nowhere else. Staying here is the only way to properly live inside it rather than passing through.

What to avoid
Don't leave race weekend booking later than March. This is the only luxury hotel in Monza, the teams use it, and it fills completely. There is no late availability — you're either in early or staying in Milan.
