Sentosa is genuinely close, roughly 3 miles from Marina Bay and about 10 minutes by MRT via HarbourFront station, which makes it a realistic full-day addition to a race trip rather than a separate excursion that eats into your schedule.
Three real ways to arrive: the free Sentosa Boardwalk, a 10-15 minute walk from VivoCity mall; the Sentosa Express train for S$4; or the Singapore Cable Car from Mount Faber or HarbourFront Tower 2, landing at Imbiah Lookout, running daily 8:45am-10pm with final boarding at 9:30pm and costing roughly S$35 return, worth doing at least one direction purely for the views over the harbour and city.
Universal Studios Singapore anchors the island for theme park visitors, tickets from around S$83-88, and it's a genuinely full day on its own if that's the plan. The park runs seven themed zones, starting with Hollywood at the entrance, palm-lined boulevards and character meet-and-greets, through to Sci-Fi City, home to Battlestar Galactica, dueling roller coasters (one steel, one inverted) that rank among the park's most intense rides, and TRANSFORMERS The Ride, a 3D motion-simulator battle. Jurassic Park's Rapids Adventure is the park's river-rapids ride through a dinosaur landscape, and the newer Minion Land adds Despicable Me Minion Mayhem alongside family-friendly options like Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase. Revenge of the Mummy, in Ancient Egypt, is the other ride reviewers consistently flag as the park's top-tier thrill alongside Battlestar Galactica.
Beyond the park, Sentosa's two main beaches serve very different crowds. Siloso Beach is the livelier stretch, beach bars, iFly Singapore's indoor skydiving, AJ Hackett's Skypark Sentosa (bungy and giant swing), and water activities through Ola Beach Club. Palawan Beach is the family-oriented option, a fountain playground, a hawker centre for cheap food, and a suspension bridge across to a small islet marking the southernmost point of continental Asia. For a different kind of view, SkyHelix Sentosa is a 12-minute rotating gondola ride 35 metres up, giving a 360-degree look across the beaches and harbourfront, and Fort Siloso adds an 11-storey, 250-metre treetop walkway through the rainforest canopy that's free to access. Adventure Cove Waterpark, next to Universal Studios, has its own slides, a wave pool, and a snorkel-through reef, a separate ticketed visit from the main park.
Given Singapore's night race format, sessions typically run into the evening, which means Sentosa genuinely works as a daytime activity before heading back for racing, rather than competing with it. The cable car's 10pm close does mean planning your return by early evening if that's part of your day.
