Where should I stay for the Singapore GP?

Trackside, riverside, or value — the real Singapore stay decision

Marina Bay Street Circuit wraps around downtown Singapore, so unlike most Grand Prix venues, this genuinely is a three-way decision, not a default.

Heritage shophouses and two boutique stays, at half Marina Bay's rates

Chinatown does something Marina Bay and Clarke Quay don't: it gives you Singapore as it exists on any ordinary week, heritage shophouses, hawker stalls, temples, alongside a race weekend rather than swallowed by one. Aurum Royal and Heritage Collection on Chinatown are proof this doesn't mean sacrificing quality, two real shophouse stays at a fraction of Marina Bay's rates, each with its own trade-off worth weighing rather than a single default pick. I'd recommend this neighbourhood to a traveller who wants the race to be one part of the trip, not the entire frame around it, and who's comfortable trading a five-minute walk to the circuit for a two-stop MRT ride and a much lower nightly rate.

Chinatown

Worth knowing

  • Heritage Collection on Chinatown rates highest of any hotel in Chinatown or Clarke Quay — check its live rating on Google Maps — but it's a walk-up building with no elevator and some rooms are windowless — request a skylight or windowed category if that matters.
  • Aurum Royal's central location, opposite an MRT station and food court, makes it the easier logistical pick if luggage or mobility rules out a walk-up building — worth checking its current rating directly before booking, since it carries a real but thin review count.
  • Chinatown MRT station sits on both the North East and Downtown lines, giving you two fast routes to Marina Bay rather than one, useful if race-night crowding makes a single line unreliable.
